She is a laureate of the Austrian competition "Prima la Musica" (2002, 2004, 2009), the European competition "Alfredo e Vanda Marcosig" in Gorizia, (2005, 2008, 2009), the international competition in Dubrovnik "Rudolf Matz" (2006, 2007), the "Antonio Janigro" in Porec (2006) and the cello competition in Liezen (2002, 2008).
Further competition prizes followed: First Prizes at the Austrian Lion's Club and the Swiss Youth Music Competition, as well as the Recognition Prize of the Basel Orchestra Society.
In 2018, she won the internship in the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and was honored as a rising soloist with the "Golden Medal" at the "4th International Manhattan Competition 2019".
After her performance of Rococo Variations and giving masterclass in the biggest university in UNAM, she recieved an honorary doctorate (honoris causa).

Ana Turkalj is a member of the Atl-Trio, the Alean Duo, which was a prizewinner at the 2019 Orpheus Competition and recorded the complete Cello-Sonatas by Carl Reinecke by Brilliant Classics. As duo "A.T.ea for two" she released a CD by "Lion Crown's music records" in 2019.
International concert engagements as soloist and chamber musician have taken her to famous music centers, including Vienna, Salzburg, Florence, Venice, Verona, Rome, Ljubljana, Barcelona, London, New York, Boston, Tokyo and Mexico City.
As a soloist she performed with Lake of Como Philharmonic Orchestra, Lugansk Philharmonic, UAEH Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), SinfonieON, Basler Festival Orchestra, Puebla Symphony Orchestra.

Born in "Hainburg an der Donau" (Austria) Ana Turkalj grew up in Vienna, although her family is croatian.
As a child she attended her brother’s cello lessons, lay in his cello case, listened to the sound and discovered her love for music.
As her extraordinary musical talent developed, she attended master classes with renowned musicians* and won an above-average number of cello competition awards in Croatia, Italy and Austria. Performing several piano pieces as a child, she was also honored with an invitation by the Harvard University in Boston and was awarded for her own composed piece with a special price at the Wendl&Lung Piano Competition in Vienna.
The Zurich University of the Arts accepted her as a young student in 2009, where she began her actual studies with Prof. Orfeo Mandozzi two years later. In 2013 she moved to the Music Academy Basel to Ivan Monighetti, Rafael Rosenfeld, Thomas Demenga and later to the "School of Excellence" program with Danjulo Ishizaka.
She received fruitful impulses in master classes with Götz Teutsch, Wolfgang Böttcher, Seiji Ozawa, Arto Noras, Bernard Greenhouse and Nicolas Altstaedt, among others.

Sie ist Preisträgerin des österreichischen Wettbewerbs „Prima la Musica“ (2002, 2004, 2009), des europäischen Wettbewerbes „Alfredo e Vanda Marcosig“ in Gorizia, (2005, 2008, 2009), des internationalen Wettbewerbes in Dubrovnik „Rudolf Matz“ (2006, 2007), des „Antonio Janigro“ in Porec (2006) und des Cellowettbewerbs in Liezen (2002, 2008).
Es folgten weitere Wettbewerbspreise: Erster Preise beim österreichischen Lion’s Club und beim Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerb, sowie der Anerkennungspreis der Basler Orchestergesellschaft.

Geboren in "Hainburg an der Donau", Österreich, wuchs Ana Turkalj in Wien auf.
Als Kind lag sie im Cellokasten ihres Bruders, lauschte dessen Spiel und entdeckte ihre Liebe zur Musik.
Während sich ihr ausserordentliches musikalisches Talent entfaltete, besuchte sie Meisterkurse bei namhaften Musiker*innen und gewann in Kroatien, Italien und Österreich außerordentlich viele Cello-Wettbewerbsauszeichnungen sowie einen Sonderpreis als Pianistin in Wien.
Die Zürcher Hochschule der Künste nahm sie 2009 als Jungstudentin auf, wo sie zwei Jahre später mit ihrem eigentlichen Studium bei Prof. Orfeo Mandozzi begann. 2013 wechselte sie an die Musik Akademie Basel zu Ivan Monighetti, Rafael Rosenfeld, Thomas Demenga und später in den Studiengang „School of Excellence” zu Danjulo Ishizaka.
